Before you are ready to take my crappie tips on the water you need to realize that they are not always going to be easy to catch. They can be by the dozens but here today and gone tomorrow is the general rule. I will tell you how to make the most of the crappie spawn now.
First look for reed beds in three to five foot of water in the back of bays and later in main lake reed beds. Stay outside of the reed beds to keep from spooking them. A trolling motor is a must. It starts when the water temperature reaches sixty degrees crappies start making nests first in the bays and later in the main lake shore line areas.
Take a very long crappie rod nine to fourteen foot with a spinning reel spooled with six to eight pound test. Now take your float and jig combination and drop in and around the reed cover or if you do not have reeds look for them in pockets of weed cover. If crappie are fussy tip your jig with a minnow or minnow head. Also Berkley fish fry and and gulp waxies work when others do not and they are more durable.
Keep it simple subtle and very shallow crappie fall for a slow subtle presentation. Do not fish below them or you will not get bit as you will if you keep your presentation above them. Crappies always feed up if you ice fish for them you already know this. Now read this again until you totally understand these crappie tips and when you get out on the water you will be all set to catch some slabs.
Now that you have learned about spawn crappies you can learn more Crappie Tips here at my favorite website where it shows you how to catch crappies in more detail feel free by clicking here: Crappie Tips.
